The Core Advantage: Combating "Sensitization"

When standard stainless steels (like 304) are heated, carbon reacts with chromium at the grain boundaries, causing "sensitization"-a loss of corrosion resistance. AMS 5510 prevents this by adding Titanium (Ti), which has a higher affinity for carbon than chromium does.

Technical Comparison: AMS 5510 (321) vs. AMS 5511 (304L)

Temperature Threshold: If the operating temperature exceeds 800°F (427°C), AMS 5510 (321) is mandatory. While 304L reduces corrosion via low carbon, it lacks the creep strength and stabilization of 321 at extreme heats.

Welding: AMS 5510 offers excellent weldability. Unlike non-stabilized grades, it does not require post-weld annealing to maintain its corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone (HAZ).
