The typical chemical composition of Hastelloy B3 is based on nickel (content ≥65%) and molybdenum (28.5–31.5%) as the main matrix, supplemented by iron (1–3%), chromium (1.0–3.0%) and trace elements such as cobalt, tungsten and vanadium. Among them, the high content of molybdenum gives it excellent resistance to reducing medium corrosion, while by strictly controlling the carbon and silicon content and adding stabilizing elements (such as tungsten and vanadium).

Resistance to reducing medium corrosion of Alloy b3

Excellent performance in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid (medium and low concentrations), phosphoric acid and high-temperature environments containing chlorides, especially in boiling hydrochloric acid, the corrosion rate is much lower than that of stainless steel and other nickel-based alloys.

Cold rolling of Hastelloy b3 plate

During cold forming, it is recommended to use annealed sheets for stamping or bending. After forming, stress relief annealing should be performed at 870–900°C, and air cooling should be used to avoid material embrittlement.

The hot working temperature should be controlled at 1150–1200°C, and it should be avoided to stay in the range of 650–870°C to prevent the precipitation of phases at the grain boundaries from causing a decrease in mechanical properties.

Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) or plasma arc welding (PAW) is preferred for welding processes. ERNiMo-10 or special B3 welding wire is recommended. After welding, the surface oxide layer needs to be removed by pickling or sandblasting, but no additional heat treatment is required.
