Alloy 254SMO Plate is designed with an excellent chemical composition of Iron, Chromium, Nickel-Molybdenum, Nitrogen and Carbon. Designed for use in seawater and other corrosive chloride environments. SA 240 UNS S31254 has excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. This stainless steel plate has a PREN value of over 42.5. The melting point of Alloy 254 SMO material is in the temperature range of 1320℃ - 1390℃. 254 SMO vs 316 Stainless Steel
254 SMO Stainless Steel is a high-end austenitic grade with excellent nickel, molybdenum and chromium grades. 316 Stainless Steel is a standard austenitic grade with lower chemical content than 254 Smo grade.
Machining 254 SMO Stainless Steel
Due to its low sulfur content and extremely high work hardening rate, it is difficult to machine. However, machining techniques such as using overpowered machine tools, sharp tools, good lubrication, etc.
