Oxidation Resistance: SS310 sheet remains stable at temperatures up to 1150°C in continuous use. In intermittent use, it can even withstand temperatures as high as 1035°C. Its high chromium content forms a chromium oxide film that transforms to a more stable spinel structure at high temperatures, providing unparalleled protection.

 

High-Temperature Strength: Unlike many materials that soften rapidly at high temperatures, SS310 sheet maintains high creep and tensile strength at elevated temperatures, which is crucial for high-temperature components subject to mechanical loads.

Oxidizing Media Resistance: It offers excellent resistance to oxidizing acids such as nitric acid and phosphoric acid.

 

Carburization and Sulfurization Resistance: SS310 sheet resists the intrusion of carbon and sulfur, which can lead to embrittlement, in carburizing atmospheres and sulfur-containing environments.

 

Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking: While not as good as duplex stainless steel, its high nickel content makes it more resistant to chloride stress corrosion than 304 and 316 stainless steels.

High Toughness and Ductility: Excellent impact toughness even at low temperatures, with no brittle transition temperature.

 

Non-Magnetic: Remains non-magnetic under all heat treatment conditions, making it suitable for applications with stringent magnetic properties, such as those surrounding medical MRI equipment and in the electronics field.

 

Processability: SS310 sheet possesses good cold forming capabilities, such as bending, stamping, and deep drawing. Its high work hardening rate results in a rapid increase in strength during cold working, which can be an advantage in certain parts requiring high strength, but also means that intermediate annealing may be required.

 

Cutting: Plasma cutting, water jet cutting, or laser cutting can be used to achieve high-quality cut surfaces without heat-affected zones. Traditional oxy-acetylene cutting is not suitable for stainless steel.

 

Forming:

      Cold Forming: Due to its high work hardening rate, when performing severe bending or stamping, a larger tonnage may be required, and intermediate annealing should be considered to restore plasticity.

 

      Hot Forming: SS310 sheet should be performed within the temperature range of 1150-900°C, followed by rapid cooling to maintain optimal corrosion resistance.

 

Welding: SS310 sheet has good weldability. Matching ER310 or E310 welding consumables are recommended. To ensure optimal corrosion resistance after welding (especially intergranular corrosion resistance), solution annealing (heating to 1065-1120°C followed by rapid water quenching) is recommended to dissolve carbides that may have precipitated during welding.
