High Strength and Hardness: Its strength is significantly higher than that of conventional austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 and 316), and under certain conditions, can reach or even exceed the levels of low-alloy steels.
Corrosion Resistance: After heat treating to a high-strength state, its corrosion resistance surpasses that of many martensitic stainless steels, approaching that of 304 and 410 stainless steel. It exhibits particularly good resistance to media such as air, water vapor, and dilute nitric acid.
Simple Heat Treatment: Complex quenching and cryogenic treatment are not required, resulting in minimal deformation and oxidation during heat treatment.
Performance Adjustment through Heat Treatment: By varying the aging temperature, the material's strength, hardness, and toughness can be adjusted within a certain range.

manufacture process of 17-4ph steel plate
Machinability: In the solution-treated state, 17-4PH exhibits similar machinability to annealed 304 stainless steel. Once age-hardened, machining becomes significantly more difficult, becoming similar to that of high-strength alloy steels. Rigid equipment, sharp carbide or coated tools, and appropriate coolant are recommended.
Formability: Cold forming operations (such as bending and stamping) should be performed in the solution-hardened state. Due to its higher strength, springback is more pronounced than with standard stainless steel and must be considered in the design. After age-hardening, its formability is very limited.
Weldability: 17-4PH has good weldability. Welding consumables with a similar composition to the parent material are generally used. Best practice is to weld in the solution-hardened state, followed by a full ageing treatment to restore the heat-affected zone. If welding in the aged state, a complete solution and ageing treatment must be performed again after welding to maintain the weld joint's performance.
