Chemical composition of ss316lmod plate

The chemical composition of 316LMod has been precisely adjusted on the basis of 316L. The main elements include carbon (C≤0.03%), chromium (Cr: 17.0-18.5%), nickel (Ni: 13.0-15.0%), molybdenum (Mo: 2.2-3.0%) and nitrogen (N≤0.22%).

The corrosion resistance of 316LMod is particularly outstanding. In the ammonium carbamate environment, seawater and high chloride ion medium in urea production, its corrosion resistance is far superior to ordinary 316L. According to the Hugh test, its corrosion rate in 65% boiling nitric acid for 48 hours is ≤3.3 microns, while ordinary 316L is difficult to pass this rigorous test.

mechanical properties of 316lmod stainless steel plate

The tensile strength of 316LMod can reach more than 620MPa, and the yield strength is ≥310MPa, which is about 15% higher than that of ordinary 316L. Its low-temperature impact toughness (≥100J/cm² at -196℃) and high-temperature oxidation resistance (below 800℃) make it suitable for extreme temperature environments, such as liquefied natural gas equipment or flue gas desulfurization systems.

Compared with ordinary 316L, 316LMod has achieved multiple improvements through composition optimization and process control: the ferrite content is limited to ≤0.6% (ordinary 316L can reach 5%), ensuring full austenite structure to resist selective corrosion. It needs to pass the Hugh test and selective corrosion test, while ordinary materials only need conventional intergranular corrosion test. In terms of cost, 316LMod has a premium of about 30-50%, but its service life can be extended by more than 50% in harsh environments, with significant economic benefits.

Marine engineering and seawater desalination: used for seawater cooling pipelines, reverse osmosis membrane shells and high-pressure pump bodies.

Chemical processing and pharmaceuticals: used as core materials for reactors, heat exchangers and transmission pipelines in chlorinated organic solvents (such as chloroform), acetic acid and mixed acid media.

Energy and environmental protection: used in geothermal fluid transportation, flue gas desulfurization system (FGD) spray pipes and nuclear power plant secondary circuit water purification equipment.

Food and bioengineering: Meets FDA standards and is used for pollution-free transmission of high-cleanliness media (such as fermentation broth and pharmaceutical intermediates).
