ASME SA 240 304H (UNS S30409) is a modification of the "18-8" chromium-nickel 304 austenitic stainless steel. The carbon content is controlled within the 0.04-0.10% range and is used in applications up to 800°F (427°C) and above. SS304H alloy has general corrosion resistance similar to 304/304L. Alloy 304H resists atmospheric corrosion as well as moderately oxidizing and reducing environments. Due to its high carbon content, 1.4948 stainless steel is susceptible to carbide precipitation in the heat affected zone of welds.

UNS S30409 Stainless Steel Hot Forming
- For most hot working processes, the recommended operating temperature is 1652–2102°F (750–1150°C).
- When heat treating, the material should be annealed at a minimum of 1900°F (1038°C) and rapidly cooled by water quenching after hot working.
SUS 304H Stainless Steel Cold Forming:
- SS 304 H is very ductile and can be easily formed. It helps to increase the strength and hardness of the alloy.
