Hot Forming

For most thermal processing processes, the recommended operating temperature is 1700 – 2200°F (927 – 1204°C). For maximum corrosion resistance, 316L materials should be annealed at a minimum temperature of 1900°F (1038°C) and water quenched or otherwise rapidly cooled after hot working.

 

Cold Forming

The alloy has good ductility and is easy to form. Cold working operations increase the strength and hardness of the alloy 316L and may make it slightly magnetic.
