Corrosion resistance characteristics of 904L
1.4539 aisi Corrosion resistance to oxidizing media
The high content of chromium element in S904L Steel Plate forms a stable Cr ₂ O3 passivation film on the surface, which can effectively prevent the corrosion of the substrate by oxidizing media (such as nitric acid, chromic acid, oxidizing salt solution, etc.). In a 50% nitric acid solution, the corrosion rate at room temperature is ≤ 0.1mm/year. In a 20% nitric acid solution at 80 ℃, the corrosion rate is ≤ 0.5mm/year.
904l metal alloy Corrosion resistance in reducing media
The synergistic effect of nickel and copper elements gives S904L Steel Plate excellent corrosion resistance in reducing media. In a 10% sulfuric acid solution, the corrosion rate is ≤ 0.1mm/year at room temperature, and ≤ 0.3mm/year in a 5% sulfuric acid solution at 60 ℃.
904l uns Corrosion resistance to chloride ions
The pitting potential of 904L (in 3.5% NaCl solution, 25 ℃) is about 1.0V (SCE), much higher than that of 316L stainless steel (about 0.4V (SCE)). The critical temperature for crevice corrosion is about 60 ℃ in a 3.5% NaCl solution, while it is about 30 ℃ for 316L stainless steel.
Resistance to intergranular corrosion
The extremely low carbon content (≤ 0.02%) prevents the formation of Cr ₂ ∝ C ₆ carbides by the combination of carbon and chromium during welding or high-temperature heating, thereby preventing the occurrence of intergranular corrosion.
Processing performance characteristics of 904L

During the cold working process, the S904L Steel Plate will undergo work hardening. With the increase of machining deformation, the strength and hardness increase, while the plasticity decreases. When the deformation during processing is large (such as exceeding 30%), intermediate solution treatment (heating to 1100-1150 ℃, rapid water cooling after insulation) is required to restore the plasticity of the material and facilitate subsequent processing.

The hot processing temperature range of 904L is 1150-1250 ℃. When heating, the temperature should be slowly increased to avoid excessive temperature difference causing material cracking. The insulation time is determined according to the thickness of the material, generally 1-2 minutes/mm.

S904L Steel Plate can be welded using arc welding (manual arc welding, submerged arc welding, gas shielded welding), resistance welding and other welding methods. It is recommended to use matching 904L welding wire (such as ER385) or welding rod (such as E385-16) during welding to avoid using dissimilar materials for welding, which may result in a decrease in corrosion resistance in the weld area.
