Dependencies and differences with SS304/304L

SS304: The most versatile austenitic stainless steel, with a carbon content capped at 0.08%, offering excellent overall performance.

SS304L: A low-carbon version of 304, with a carbon content capped at 0.03%, designed to eliminate or reduce the risk of intergranular corrosion caused by chromium carbide precipitation during welding or stress relief in sensitive environments.

SS304H: The carbon content is strictly controlled within the higher range of 0.04-0.10%. The higher carbon content contributes to high-temperature strength.

1.4948 steel plate high-temperature performance

Creep resistance: Creep is the slow plastic deformation of a material under constant stress at high temperatures. The carbon in SS304H forms fine carbides with chromium, effectively hindering grain boundary sliding. This significantly improves the material's creep rupture strength, enabling long-term stable operation in high-temperature, high-pressure pipelines, superheaters, and other equipment.

High-Temperature Strength: Within the temperature range of 500°C to 800°C, SS304H's yield strength and tensile strength are significantly higher than those of 304 and 304L.

ASTM A240 304H Machinability and Formability

The austenitic structure gives SS304H sheet excellent toughness, ductility, and work-hardening properties. It can be strengthened through cold working and easily undergoes complex forming operations such as stamping, drawing, and bending. However, its strong work-hardening properties also require higher machining power and increase tool wear.
