SS316LN steel plate Forming and Processing Technology

Forming methods are divided into hot rolling and cold rolling, corresponding to different thickness ranges: Hot-rolled steel plates are typically 3.0mm-100mm thick, with widths ranging from 1000mm-2500mm, and lengths can be customized.

Cold-rolled steel plates are thinner and have higher surface precision. Hot working temperatures must be strictly controlled between 1150℃ and 900℃, and water quenching must be performed immediately after processing to maintain the austenitic structure. During cold working, the work hardening index (n-value) of the material reaches 0.45, higher than that of 304 stainless steel.

Solution treatment is the core heat treatment step that determines the performance of 316LN. The process parameters are: heating temperature 1050-1120℃, holding time positively correlated with steel plate thickness (1.2-1.5 minutes per 1mm thickness, total 30 minutes to 2 hours).

After treatment, rapid cooling methods such as water quenching are used to prevent the precipitation of carbides and σ phase. This process can simultaneously achieve multiple objectives such as composition homogenization, stress elimination, and plasticity restoration, ensuring that the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the steel plate meet design requirements.

The core mechanical properties of SS316LN steel plate at room temperature are: tensile strength ≥515MPa (some standards require ≥550MPa), yield strength (0.2% offset) ≥205MPa (nuclear-grade applications require ≥290MPa), elongation (50mm gauge length) ≥40%, Brinell hardness ≤217HB, Rockwell hardness ≤95HRB, elastic modulus approximately 193GPa, and density 8.0g/cm³.

SS316LN steel plate possesses comprehensive corrosion resistance advantages: its low-carbon design ensures that its sensitized state resistance to intergranular corrosion meets the standards tested according to ASTM A262 (method C or method E). The synergistic effect of molybdenum and nitrogen gives it excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, and it can withstand the erosion of media such as seawater, hydrochloric acid, and hypochlorous acid. It also has good resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC), making it suitable for high-chlorine and high-stress conditions.
