Features of 17-4ph

High Strength and Hardness: Through aging treatment, its strength far exceeds that of ordinary austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 and 316), reaching or exceeding the levels of many high-strength alloy steels.
Good Toughness: While achieving high strength, it maintains acceptable toughness, especially when aged at higher temperatures (H1025-H1150).
Excellent Fatigue Strength: Critical for components subjected to cyclic loading, such as aircraft parts and shafts.
Low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: Close to that of ordinary carbon steel, advantageous in certain thermal cycling applications.
High-Temperature Performance: Maintains good strength and hardness below approximately 300°C.

1.4542 stainless steel Heat treatment

Solution treatment (Condition A): Heating to approximately 1040°C followed by rapid cooling allows alloying elements (especially copper) to uniformly dissolve in the austenite matrix, leaving the material in a soft state and making it easier to process.

Aging treatment (H series): Holding the alloy at a relatively low temperature (480°C - 620°C) for several hours. During this time, supersaturated copper atoms disperse and precipitate as extremely fine, coherent copper-rich phases (ε-Cu), strongly hindering dislocation motion and significantly improving strength and hardness.

Different aging temperatures correspond to different performance levels

H900 (480°C): Peak strength (typical UTS >1310 MPa, YS >1170 MPa), highest hardness (HRC ~40-45), but relatively low toughness.
H1025 (550°C): Slightly lower strength (typical UTS >1170 MPa, YS >1000 MPa), hardness (HRC ~35-40), and improved toughness.
H1075 (580°C): Further reduced strength (typical UTS >1000 MPa, YS >860 MPa), but with improved toughness and stress corrosion cracking resistance.
H1150 (620°C): Lowest but still excellent strength (typical UTS >860 MPa, YS >690 MPa), with the best toughness and stress corrosion cracking resistance, and hardness (HRC ~28-35).
